Tangling & Watercolor
The Story
Metro Detroit/Plymouth, Michigan - The Tangled Web is a collection of therapeutic art classes, art meditations, business workshops and private parties, offered by ARTHAUS:Detroit. Whether you're looking for personal R&R, a fun new outlet, or just trying to find your creative flow, it's a great place to start.
You come to me, or I come to you (depending on the class or event). I instruct projects using watercolor, ink, and mixed media. The main technique I feature is a simple illustration practice of mindfully repeated, structured drawing patterns called tangles. The name of the technique is called Zentangle and it's fun. You'll discover that Zentangle is the opposite of doodling, and with benefits doodling can't claim.
Easy and centering, folks usually say Zentangle surprises them with unexpected bonuses beyond creative outlet. People -- men, women, children, fine artists and novices alike -- experience:
stress relief
pain relief
relaxation
new confidence
improved focus and concentration
self-acceptance
self-affirmation
new perspective
reduced anxiety
calm
and more...
Plus it's fun.
And if you can’t draw stick figures? No problem.
If you were told you weren’t -- or think you’re not -- creative? Not an issue.
Don’t have much time? No worries.
Don’t know where or how to start? Don’t have money for, or access to, art supplies?
Not an issue. Not a problem.
As an artist, educator, and Certified Zentangle Teacher, I give you simple, basic tools and skills that turn all that around in little time. It's a fun way to discover that..."anything is possible...one stroke at a time."*
And did I say that it's fun? ;) ;)
*Anything is possible…one stroke at a time.” is a registered trademark and slogan of Rick Roberts & Maria Thomas, founders of the Zentangle Method.

Finding peace and providence in patterns of creation is a gift that keeps on giving. And it is attainable for students of all abilities and ages. The opportunity to share these skills and see creativity transform lives is immensely gratifying.
