Third person (man) pictured in the 2nd row below: Michael Audain.
The Jackson police didn't have to arrest me, but since they did, fine. I was so delighted to see the other Freedom Riders in jail. In many ways, the experience changed my life...The British Columbia Civil Liberties Association...the Nuclear Disarmament Club at University of British Columbia...Vietnam War resistance in Canada and England..the strike in Paris...Woodstock...a commune in Toronto...I was involved in a lot of stuff, but it all stemmed from the Freedom Riders. - Michael Audain (Breach of Peace, Etheridge, 2018)
Audain grew up in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, but was born in Bournemouth, England. He is not the only Freedom Rider who was born, or lived, across the pond. Keep an eye peeled and you'll meet other Riders from across the Atlantic Ocean.
